Aal im Schädel is the movie that Martin Rahmlow created for his diploma. It’s an animated short. My job was to light and render about 15 minutes, at HD resolution (720). We decided to render in separate passes (characters, background, forground, depth, etc.).

Have a look at the official webpage.

So here some statistics …

1175 scenes rendered
390.359 (about 270 minutes)
621 days of processor render time

You can watch this to get some impressions from the movie …

Lighting Animation:

As well as lighting/rendering, I also did some particles …

We had the problem with how the boat was moving through the flat, calm sea and we had really no time to commit to research how to make it look real. So i wrote a little script which takes many instances of the standard wave deformer and connects them to an emitter (the boat) …

You can find the script here
